N2 Eyes, your caring Newport News optometrists, offers you different options for vision correction to meet your needs. We provide glasses -- including a stunning array of frames -- as well as both rigid gas permeable (RGP) and soft contact lenses. N2 Eyes also realizes that not everyone's needs are met by glasses and traditional contact lenses. This is why we offer innovative non-surgical solutions, such as Ortho-K or Corneal Refractive Therapy.

Ortho-K: The Non-Surgical Corrective Option

ortho_k_contact_lens_and_eyeOrtho K is a brilliant and non-surgical technique that N2 Eyes uses to reshape your corneas at night while you are sleeping.  Corneal molds are used and you can compare the effect to a retainer. When you awaken, you can enjoy corrected vision for a certain period of time -- the typical duration is a day or two. However, some patients do experience a longer time frame. The corneas are the part of your eyes that allows light to enter. Subsequently, those light rays are bent or, refracted, in a certain way. The cornea performs its job of focusing and sharpening the image before it reaches your optic nerve and retina. Thus, Ortho-K or corneal refractive therapy targets the cornea specifically to perform corrective actions to temporarily improve your ability to focus and sharpen images.  For a more detailed explanation, please view this video: http://www.crtvision.com

Your Corneas: Explained

The previously mentioned corrective actions help overcome natural deficits in the cornea. These deficits can lead to fuzzy and out of focus vision as the result of farsightedness, nearsightedness and astigmatism. Unlike surgical options, such as LASIK, Ortho K requires very little on your part once you have the lenses. Before you go to bed at night, simply slip the lenses onto your eyes and you will wake up in the morning with improved vision.

Who is a candidate?

Ideal candidates are nearsighted individuals and minimal astigmatism  who desire great vision without the aid of surgery or day time glasses and contacts lenses.  Children who are experiencing a progression in their myopia and would like to have it level off and control the progression are also great candidates.  Swimmers and athletes who engage in close contact or extreme sports as well as professionals that would like to have great vision without corrective device such as policeman or flight attendants are great candidates.  Your eyes must be a in good health to receive the maximum benefit from this non-invasive procedure!

Getting the Process Started with Ortho-K

Simply make an appointment with Dr. Nathalie Cassis so we can take the necessary measurements. Because Ortho K treatments are customized specifically to each patient's eyes, the molds must be fabricated individually and precisely. If you are searching for a way to live without glasses or contacts, but do not want to undergo a surgical procedure such as LASIK, contact N2 Eyes today to discuss Ortho-K!
